Wild-born in the mountains of Oregon, Zapata is a Kiger Mustang believed to preserve many of the characteristics of the colonial Spanish horses that arrived in the Americas more than four centuries ago.
Selected by Robin in 2015 specifically for the sport of Working Equitation, he has spent the last eleven years exceeding every expectation.
Today, Zapata stands among the world’s best as a member of Team USA and a remarkable ambassador for the American Mustang.
In October of 2015, a young red dun Kiger Mustang stallion stood in a Bureau of Land Management holding pen in Oregon. Eleven years later, Zapata has exceeded every expectation.
Together, Robin and Zapata have risen through the highest levels of Working Equitation competition, overcoming setbacks, earning international rankings, and securing their place on Team USA at the 2026 Working Equitation World Championships in Spain.
This September, Zapata will make the journey to Spain not as a wild horse from Oregon, but as a member of Team USA competing among the world’s best.
By nine years old, Robin had exhausted every horse book in her local library, and at thirteen she received her first horse—a $50 Mustang colt that would ignite a lifelong passion for horsemanship.
Robin’s journey has taken her from the hunter ring to reined cow horse, musical freestyle performances at the Del Mar National Horse Show, service in the United States Navy, and ultimately to the highest levels of Working Equitation.
Now, another Mustang is carrying her to the 2026 Working Equitation World Championships in Spain.

In 2015, Zapata stood in a holding pen waiting for an uncertain future.
In 2026, he’ll fly to Jerez, Spain to the Working Equitation World Championships wearing the colors of Team USA.
Robin will arrive in six weeks before the Championships to train alongside Team USA’s coach and some of the world’s top Working Equitation riders
